The new Power Rangers trailer, the final trailer for Logan, Green Lantern Corps casting rumors, David Ayer reflects on Suicide Squad and more, in this weeks Geekly News Round-Up!
New Logan Trailer Unleashed
Logan is the upcoming third Wolverine movie (second to be directed by James Mangold) and we get a final look at it from its second trailer, which you can and should check out above! It goes a lot deeper into X-23 Laura Kinney but still remains pretty spoiler free, especially for a final trailer.
Hugh Jackman was interviewed about the movie by Digital Spy and had this to say:
"When you see the full movie you'll understand. Not only is it different in terms of timeline and tone, it's a slightly different universe. It's actually a different paradigm and that will become clear."
After that caused fans to freak out, director James Mangold had to clarify that statement a little bit on Twitter:
"Don't think @RealHughJackman said that exactly. Simple fact. We take place in 2029, 5 yrs past anything depicted in XMEN [films]."
"Because we take place after all the other movies, we have freedom. That's all he meant. Breathe."
Sound great to me. Can't wait for this one.
New Power Rangers Trailer
The new Power Rangers movie has released its second trailer, which gives us a much better look at the Rangers in action and even their Zords! Check it out above!
Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
Justice League Tagline Revealed?
A crew member of the upcoming DC film Justice League shared a picture of the crew shirts of the production, which you can see above. It features the tagline "They've never faced us before. Not us united.", which might as well be the film's tagline when it comes out this November. I, for one, would love that. Sounds cool!
Fyi... I also want that shirt!^^
Actors Rumored For Green Lantern
It has been recently confirmed that writer David S. Goyer, who wrote Batman Begins, the Blade trilogy and Man of Steel, will be writing the Green Lantern Corps movie from DC Comics, which has been described as Lethal Weapon in space! The movie is supposed to feature a veteran GL in Hal Jordan, who takes a rookie GL (probably John Stewart) under his wing. It is not clear who will play either part, nor who will direct, but the movie is still a few years out. However, according to the Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzales the following actors are on the list for WB as Hal Jordan:
Ryan Reynolds (who would return to the role after 2011s failed GL movie) , Tom Cruise (how cool would it be to see Maverick as Hal Jordan?! Pretty awesome, but Cruise is nearing 60 when the film comes out, so he probably is too old for the part and also already busy with a lot of franchises), Armie Hammer (who has been rumored for a DC role for a while and has been seen with Deathstroke actor Joe Magianello quite recently, both teasing the DC audience and Geoff Johns, DC's Chief Creative Officer, retweeting that), James Marsden (Cyclops from the X-Men movies)and Jake Gyllenhaal.
There haven't been official talks yet, the Wrap states, but all these actors will be offered the part.
I think we can safely rule out Reynolds (because Deadpool) and Cruise. Best bets are Hammer (IF he doesn't already is involved in a role for the solo Batman with Joe Mangianello) and James Marsden, in my opinion. We'll have to wait and see what happens, but I am very excited about a real GLC movie, set in space.
David Ayer Talks Suicide Squad Regrets
After being tweeted glowing praise by a fan towards his DC film Suicide Squad, David Ayer answered with a large statement thanking the fan for the kind words and elaborating on his thoughts about the whole Suicide Squad experience:
I love that he took his time to talk about the process in such a heartfelt note. We here at Archonia liked (some even loved) Suicide Squad, but we all are aware that it wasn't a perfect film. My personal chief complaint about it was the lack of Joker scenes, because the PR campaign made him out to be a main player and not just a big cameo.
Very happy with Ayer returning to the DC film universe with the Gotham City Sirens movie (featuring Harley, Catwoman and Poison Ivy) and to be honest I feel that his comments regarding Joker not being the main villain in Squad plus saying "I have to give the characters the stories and plots they deserve next time" sound like there might be plans to have Joker as the main villain in the Sirens film. It would make sense, to follow up Suicide Squad's ending and maybe show her break from him, which is one of the milestones of her character. That being aided by Selina and Ivy would make a lot of sense to me. We will see. I already am excited about the possibilities.
