This week is PACKED with DC news, like some bastard magician from London, a group of heroes finally banding together, Superman on TV and more!
Constantine Returns To The CW
Matt Ryan's Constantine TV show on NBC has been as close as us Hellblazer fans have gotten to John Constantine from the comic in live action yet! While the show wasn't as dark or as England centric (read: set in the US sigh) as I, as a HARDCORE fan would have liked, Matt Ryan's portrayal of the character was very close to perfect! When NBC cancelled the show with not even a full season under its belt, fans were crushed. A glimpse of hope appeared when John made his appearance in the CW DC universe on an season 4 episode of Arrow (best show of an otherwise pretty bad season), but since then we didn't hear anything in regards of a possible renewal of the show anywhere.
Now we finally know Matt Ryan's version of the magician will come back and on the CW network, just not exactly how I had hoped. Constantine on the CW Seed app will be an animated show, which continues the adventures of DC's premier sorcerer! Overall I am excited, since more John Constantine is a good thing and I genuinely hope this might lead to a leading part of him in Legend's of Tomorrow's third season!
CW DC Shows Have Been Renewed
The CW announced that they were pretty happy about the performances of their 4 (!!!) DC Comics based show and renewed all of them (plus Supernatural, naturally) for new seasons in fall 2017! That means Arrow will reach its 7th, Flash its 4th, Legends its 3rd and Supergirl its 3rd show as well!
Fans of the CW DCU rejoice! While I feel the quality of these shows ebbs and flows quite a bit, I do enjoy them all very much currently and am happy to get more!
New Justice League Image Released
Batman-News acquired a high res version of an image fro the upcoming Total Film magazine, which gives us our first official look at 5 members of the Justice League, right from the movie. Batman wears his new, tactical batsuit (which I love and will buy the Hot Toys figure of, fyi), Wonder Woman looks perfect as usual, as does Flash and Aquamomoa, but we also get our first good look at the design for Cyborg! Way more alien and weird than I anticipated, but him being made up from New Gods tech (a mother box specifically, as we have seen in BvS) it does make sense!
I really love the image, but that is no surprise as I am a huge Snyder fan and loved all his DC Comics movies. Can't wait, can't wait!
From Total Film: With Superman (Henry Cavill) having laid down his life for Earth, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) recruit a superteam to take on a new threat to civilization in Justice League. “It was all about the filling-out of this massive comic-book pantheon with the biggest and coolest heroes we could,” director Zack Snyder says of his group, which includes seafaring warrior Aquaman (Jason Momoa), speedy Flash (Ezra Miller) and high-tech Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Fans are getting a big character arc for Wonder Woman in 2017, beginning with her solo movie set during World War I. In it, she finds “humanity isn’t always the most kind and awesome thing,” says Snyder, also a producer on Wonder Woman. “It has its moments, but it can be brutal, and her coming to terms with that dichotomy is what we come to learn about her. And in Justice League, she’s fully evolved into someone who’s embraced mankind, partly through Superman’s sacrifice. She’s like, ‘All right, I’ve got to pick it up.’”
Superman On TV?
Tyler Hoechlin's version of Superman was a lot better than most people anticipated (I still like Cavill better tho ;-P) and now the question is, when will we see him again? In another CW show crossover? In the Supergirl TV show? Legends of Tomorrow? Maybe his own show?! The president of the CW network was asked about this and had some pretty firm answers for Entertainment Weekly:
"Tyler did a great job. There’s no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to Supergirl]. If they wish to have him return, we’d love to have him."
When he was asked if the Superman being a huge part of the DC Films universe might be a problem for green lighting a Superman TV show at the same time he said:
"I can’t even answer the question yet, because at this time there are no plans to do it and there have been no discussions about it."
To be honest, I think a full on Superman show on the CW would distract from Supergirl and probably hurt that show overall. I feel it would be super cool to have him as a team member for Legends of Tomorrow for example, or feature him in upcoming crossovers. We'll see what happens, but I am sure we will see him again.
DC Comedy Series Powerless
NBC, the home of The Office and Park and Recreation has a new workplace comedy! While this is good news for comedy fans, there is nothing geeky about it until I mention it is actually set in the DC Universe!
Emily Locke lands her dream job as Director of Research and Development for Wayne Security in Charm City, home to super heroes and villains and citizens fed up with the collateral damage of their constant fighting. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her aspirations far exceed those of her new boss and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.
Sounds and looks fun to me and I really enjoy these types of shows, so that already makes it a must watch. Excited to see if the quality will be on the level of The Office and Parks And Rec.
Is Betty Ross Back In Avengers Infinity War?!
Liv Tyler played Betty Ross in the 2008 superhero movie the Incredible Hulk alongside ex Bruce Banner Edward Norton and was nowhere to be seen afterwards. Now, according to the Scottish Daily Record, which reported in Avengers Infinity War shooting in Schottland, Betty will finally return to now Bruce Banner Marc Ruffalo!
"Brie Larson of 21 Jump Street fame is expected to play Captain Marvel, while Liv, daughter of Aerosmith rocker Steven, is rumoured to be playing her Incredible Hulk character Betty Ross. Inverness-born Karen [Gillen], 29, is reportedly preparing to star as galactic supervillain Nebula."
Take this with the largest grain of slat you can find! I would like to see her back, I have to say, since Betty is a very important figure in Banner's life we haven't seen in a while. We'll see if it shakes out to be true though.
